As an event planner known for luxurious and unique designs I get a lot of requests for summer parties. As temperatures start to drop, kids head back to school, and everyone is eager to squeeze the most fun out of what is left of the season if your principal is requesting an end of summer shindig here are my tips to help make it as fabulous as this magical time of the year.
Set the tone – Invites set the tone for any party. For this you’ll want something inspired by a goodbye (for now) to lightening bug catching, ice cream cone eating, lawn games, and more.
Provide Shade – When planning a party to celebrate the last days of sunshine it can be easy to forget about providing shade. Don’t forget to set up at least a few inviting seating areas. Colorful groupings of chairs with pillows umbrellas just beg to be used. As a general rule if there are dining tables I do one grouping for every 50 people. If this is the only seating at the party you’ll want one for every 25. The key is to strike the balance that allows guests to mix and mingle but also relax comfortably.
Food – In keeping with the lively yet relaxing vibe of summer I generally tend to avoid the sit-down dinner unless it’s an intimate group. Stations where guests can customize their own sliders, tacos, and salads just lend themselves to fun in the sun. So guests can grab a bite and return to lawn games easily.

Libations – A pretty popsicle can bring a smile to any face – especially if they’re spiked. Prosecco pops are my new favorite. These can easily be made non-alcoholic with a splash of fizzy juice instead of the traditional bubbly.
Evening Activities – Nothing makes the most of a warm summer evening quite like an outdoor movie. To make sure you’re throwing an epic viewing you’ll want chic concessions like custom popcorn bar and sweets, comfy cushions and glam marquee lights.
